Gazetteer & History
Tank was the administrative hinge between the settled districts and the tribal tracts: allowances were paid there, jirgas were convened there, and its bazaar handled much of the seasonal trade descending from the hills. Census and settlement reports give it a fuller documentary record than most places in this archive.
