Gazetteer & History
Kaniguram appears in British gazetteer entries as the principal Ormur settlement in the Mahsud country, described as a compact stone-built town on a high spur. Its craftsmen supplied arms and metal goods across the surrounding sections, and the survival of Ormuri there has drawn linguists since the late nineteenth century. Administrative records treat the town as a distinct case within the Mahsud tracts, since the Ormur held land among, but were not of, the surrounding sections.
